Pier 30
The site, Pier 30/31, is a 12.5 acre parking lot sitting at the foot of the Bay Bridge. This proposal removes the pier and step-grades the existing under-bay topography. The block forms are then deployed onto that surface to various levels of submersion and combination, at times leading to the disappearance of individual “blocks” as they join to create new, resultant, forms. This small scale urban landscape provides a visual connection and dissolution of the adjacent city fabric without attempting to compete with it. This design was the final product of an elaborate six week series of exercises in the first studio of the CCA M.Arch program.
